The Hermit Description
An old man walks through a dark cave, away from the hustle and bustle, in search of something precious that he is looking for - the "truth" which is symbolized by a diamond lying half buried ahead of him.
The staff that he uses for support and balance in living his life is losing its power. This loss of power and truth is represented by a small diamond on top of his staff.
The guiding fire below his right hand is taken from the large candle behind him. This candle is a symbol of consciousness and society, and he leaves the real world behind him, every now and then, in his quest for the truth.
But the journey is perilous and in it he encounters a line of fire in his path, showing how difficult the path is for someone who has to distance themselves from society.
He is introspective, and realizes that the closer we are to the light, the darker the shadow will be on us.
Yet he perseveres, and the two rings on his hat symbolize that he is enlightened by the truth.
